Preserving & Storing Hydrolats

Our Hydrolats (Hydrosols) are 100% natural skincare ingredients that are completely free of alcohol, colours, artificial fragrance and preservatives.

All of our Hydrolats are pasteurised during the bottling process which results in a completely 'sterile / bacteria free' product until the point of opening. After opening, with correct storage, your Hydrolat will have approximately a 3 month shelf life.

If you are going to use this product directly on the skin you may use one of the following options to reduce contamination and to prolong the shelf-life of your product:-

For a natural approach - use a Steripen (a handheld UV water purifier) before every use. This will keep your Hydrolat bacteria free without the use of chemicals. Steripens are widely used for travel, outdoor recreation and family health and can be purchased online.

Add a natural preservative - add 0.1% Citric Acid with 0.5% Sodium Benzoate and Potassium Sorbate to your Hydrolat when you first receive it. This will preserve your Hydrolat for 18 months.

Use a simple preservative system - add 20% (20ml in 100ml) alcohol to give your Hydrolat a 12 month shelf life.

Hydrolats should be kept in a cool, dark place at all times. Refrigeration is recommended when possible.
