Our Rose Otto Hydrolat is produced from the petals of one of the rarest flowers in the world, the Bulgarian Rosa damascena. It is only cultivated in the Rose Valley of Kazanlak, also known as the Bulgarian Rose Valley. Grown for over 300 years this is considered the best oil-bearing rose worldwide. Distilled at the highest-level of purity this 100% natural hydrolat has a typical rose fragrance that is slightly deeper and earthier than Rose Otto essential oil. It differs slightly to our previous Rose Hydrolat from Lebanon which had a sweeter aroma.

Rose Otto Hydrolat (Hydrosol) is renowned worldwide for its incredible toning, nourishing, hydrating, soothing and regenerative effect on the skin. It also has an affinity with the heart and a balancing, uplifting effect on the emotions. The delicate, soft, feminine scent of this 100% pure hydrosol can also be enjoyed as natural perfume.

Origin

Rose Hydrosol is produced during the steam distillation of rose petals. The therapeutic properties of the rose have been treasured for centuries by many different cultures, and the use of rose water can be traced as far back as 1200BC where it was produced and sold in the ancient greek city of Pilos. Cleopatra was a huge fan of rosewater's beautifying and healing properties, and used it regularly for bathing, fragrancing and cosmetic purposes.

Skin

Rose Otto Hydrolat is suitable for all skin types but is especially good for dry, irritated and ageing skin. Its antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, soothing, healing properties can be beneficial for various skin problems including acne, eczema, sunburn, insect bites and other allergic skin conditions.

Its cleansing properties are useful for lifting impurities from the skin and it makes an excellent toner to use within your natural skin care regime, to promote a softer, healthier, more radiant complexion. It has a nourishing, balancing regenerative effect on the skin and can be beneficial in reducing redness/ blotchiness and areas of inflammation including 'puffy eyes'. It is also said to stimulate blood circulation to help reduce thread veins and broken capillaries.

This therapeutic hydrosol can be used daily for toning the skin and as a hydrating facial spritz for hot summer days. It can also be used as a natural hair conditioner to soothe the scalp, treat dandruff and to boost the strength, flexibility and vitality of the hair.

Mind & Body

Rose Otto Hydrolat has gentle sedative, anti-depressant properties, which can help to soothe the nerves and calm anxiety. It also has an affinity with the female system and can be helpful for balancing the hormones particularly during the menopause. Use it as a face, body or room spray, add it to the bathwater, or use it in an essential oil burner or diffuser.

Aqua, Rosa damascena

Women adore the aroma so it makes a beautiful day time body splash. Blend with 50% grain alcohol (vodka) and add 1% Rose Absolute essential oil (or Geranium essential oil if you do not have Rose in your collection) for a natural body spray.

You can use Rose Otto Hydrolat or Hydrosol as a skin toner on its own or blended with 40% Witch Hazel Hydrolat.

To help balance oily skin mix 100ml Rose Hydrolat, 10 drops Juniperberry essential oil, 10 Cypress, 5 Lemon and 5 Geranium. Shake before use and apply with a cotton pad after cleansing to reduce excess oil and tighten the pores.

Mix Rose Otto Hydrolat at 2% into Base Formula Moisturising Cream for a skin plumping treatment.

Blend 2% hydrolat / hydrosol into Base Formula Moisturising Lotion to minimise lines around the eyes and lips.

Add 30% to boiling water and leave until it is cool enough to touch. Rinse a natural cotton face cloth in the water and gently rub the face for light exfoliation to refresh and rejuvenate the complexion.

Add 2 tablespoonfuls of Rose Otto Hydrolat to the bath water to calm the nerves and soothe anxiety.

Spray directly on to the clothes and body as an antiseptic, stay fresh subtle fragrance when travelling long distances.

Add to Base Formula SLS free Shower Gel at 2% with 1% Bergamot essential oil (known as nature's Prozac) for a relaxing, top to toe wash for hair and body.

Leave a dish of Rose Otto Hydrolat near a warm radiator to infuse the room with its positive female energy. Rose Water has been used in religious ceremonies for physical, emotional and spiritual healing since ancient Roman times.

Or, for for a relaxing, harmonising, meditative room spray mix 100ml Rose Hydrolat with 15 drops Rhododendron essential oil, 10 Bergamot and 5 Patchouli.

Use as a hydrating, cooling summer skin spritz. Mix 150ml of Rose Hydrolat, 8 drops Lavender essential oil, 2 drops each of German Chamomile, Spearmint and Peppermint and 1 drop of Eucalyptus. Keep in the fridge for extra freshness.
