The bitter orange tree (Citrus aurantium var. amara) is also known as the Seville or Sour orange. It originated from Southeast Asia but is now commonly found in the Mediterranean region, the United States and South America. Bitter Orange essential oil is derived from the outer peel of the orange fruit with the same tree also producing Petitgrain from the leaves and twigs, and Neroli from the fragrant white flowers.
Bitter Orange essential oil has a zesty, refreshing, sharp, citrus aroma, that is a cross between Orange Sweet and Grapefruit. It has similar properties to Orange Sweet, as well as Neroli and Petitgrain.
