Litsea cubeba (May Chang or Exotic Verbena) essential oil is obtained from the small, pepper-like fruits of a small tropical tree with fragrant leaves and flowers.
This exotic plant has traditionally been used in Chinese medicine for treating conditions such as aches, pains, headaches, period pain, asthma, chills and digestive problems. The oil has also, historically, has been blended with Almond Oil and used to perfume the body prior to meditation or prayer, in order to impart a sense of strength, calm and mental clarity.
May Chang essential oil, has a citrussy aroma that is somewhere between orange and lemon. It has a gentle pungency that can be helpful if you wish to cover the scent of an aromatherapy oil which is helpful to the client but not always appreciated in terms of scent. Tea Tree and Clary Sage essential oil are two prime examples.
May Chang is known as an 'oil of tranquility' and is recognized for its powerful effect in terms of promoting physical relaxation and mental calm. It is particularly recommended for those suffering from work related stress and an inability to switch off. It is also useful for skincare.
