Coriander is a fragrant annual herb with delicate white flowers turning into masses of round seeds. The essential oil is steam distilled from the crushed, ripe seeds.
Coriander seeds have been used for thousands of years, by the Egyptians as an aphrodisiac, by the Romans and Greeks to flavor their wines and in India for cooking. Coriander seeds were even found in the tomb of Tutankhamun. The Carmelite order in France used Coriander seeds to flavor their 17th century toilet water and it is still used in Chartreuse and Benedictine liqueurs.

For oily skin
- Face Mask: Mix 2 tsp Ultra Fine French Green Clay with 1 tsp of Aloe Vera Gel (or adapt measures until you achieve your desired consistency) then mix in 1 drop of Coriander Seed oil. Apply to the face and neck, avoiding eye area, and leave for 10 minutes. Remove with a cloth and warm water, Tone with either Orange Flower or Witch Hazel Hydrolat then apply a light moisturiser.
To de-stress and boost the mood
- Diffuse: To boost your mood when feeling low, diffuse 3 drops Tangerine, 3 drops Grapefruit and 2 drops Coriander for 30 minutes at a time.
- Bath: If you’re feeling stressed, try a soothing bath with 3 drops Mandarin, 2 drops Patchouli and 1 drop Coriander mixed in 15ml of Bath Oil. Pour into the warm, running water. Shut doors and windows, lie back, relax and inhale the aromas and allow yourself some time to decompress!
- Massage: to ease stress-induced irritability, calm the nervous system with a soothing blend of 3 drops Chamomile, 2 drops Patchouli and 1 drop Coriander mixed in 15ml Grapeseed oil. Massage into the body in a direction towards the heart.
To energise and relieve fatigue
- Massage: If you’re suffering with fatigue, blend an energising massage oil with 2 drops Lemon, 2 drops Coriander and 2 drops Ho Leaf, mixed in 15ml Grapeseed oil. Massage into the body in a direction towards the heart.
- Diffuse: for a super-boost, blend a mix of 3 drops Lime, 2 drops Rosemary and 2 drops Coriander and use in a candle burner or diffuser to help energise and invigorate throughout the day.
To aid the digestive system
- Massage: Coriander is brilliant for digestive suffering, helping to detoxify the body and relieve spasms. For digestive support mix 2 drops Mandarin, 2 drops Coriander and 2 drops Chamomile in 15ml Grapeseed oil and apply to the body in a direction towards the heart. Always work in a clockwise direction when massaging the tummy.
