Calendula (Calendula officinalis) or Marigold oil is produced by infusing or macerating the marigold flowers in hot oil. It can be made at home but buying commercially produced oil will give you a purer, longer lasting oil.
Our Calendula oil is infused in Sunflower Seed oil (Helianthus annuus) and is thought to have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral and anti-fungal properties that are ideal for supporting, restoring and protecting the skin. It is a perfect choice for soothing many different forms of sore, inflamed skin conditions including chapped skin, burns, eczema, psoriasis, cold sores, nappy rash, post-natal wounds and even cracked nipples! It is also indicated for reducing the appearance of thread/spider veins and varicose veins.
The oil has wonderful healing, soothing and rejuvenating qualities which makes it a good oil to include when mixing a massage or carrier oil blend. It is particularly beneficial if you are working with clients who are bed-bound as it is reputed to help stimulate the healing of stubborn wounds, ulcers, and bed sores, and it certainly enriches the massage blend in a way that is soothing and nourishing for dry, neglected skin.
It is excellent for hard-working hands, as well as being useful in manicures to help restore the nail margins and cuticles. Its anti-fungal properties are also beneficial in blends for athlete's foot and ringworm.
Usage: Calendula oil can be used on its own or as an ingredient in creams, lotions, ointments and salves. It can also be diluted at up to 20% with other less expensive carrier oils to enrich your massage blends. To maximise the anti-inflammatory properties we recommend blending it 50:50 with St John’s Wort oil.
