Neroli essential oil is steam-distilled from the fragrant white blossom of the Bitter Orange tree, also known as the Sour or Seville orange. The same tree also produces Petitgrain oil from the twigs and leaves and Bitter Orange oil from the fruit. The oil is produced in many countries but the oils from France and Tunisia are considered to be of the highest quality.
Neroli is also known as 'orange blossom' and its name is said to have originated from the Italian princess, Anne-Marie de la Tremoille who was the Countess of Nerola. The Countess used the exquisitely fragranced aromatherapy oil as a perfume and to scent her bathwater and gloves. Today, it is still used as a key ingredient in the world-famous fragrance 'Eau de Cologne' and many other perfumes.
Neroli essential oil is a warm, sweet oil which has been revered for centuries for its positive effect on the human psyche. It is an ideal essential oil to counteract nervous exhaustion and emotional stress and is also beneficial for all skin types.
