Arnica montana is also known as wolf’s bane, leopard’s bane, mountain daisy and mountain tobacco. It’s an aromatic perennial plant, belonging to the Asteraceae (Sunflower) family, that typically grows in hilly, mountainous areas of northern and central Europe, Siberia, and North America. It has beautiful yellow, daisy-like flowers that appear in July and August.
Arnica has been used medicinally for hundreds of years. St Hildegard wrote about its healing properties in the 12th century and it has been used by mountain people, since the 16th century for relieving bruises, aches, and pains.
Today, Arnica is one of the most well-known homeopathic remedies, used both internally and externally in tiny doses for treating shock, trauma, sprains, strains, and bruising.
Our Arnica oil (for topical application) is produced by infusing Arnica montana petals in pure Sunflower Seed oil. It is excellent for general massage and sports blends for relieving pain and stiffness in the muscles and joints and is one of the best choices for injuries such as bruises, sprains, strains, torn ligaments and pulled muscles.
Arnica is thought to aid healing by decreasing pain, inflammation, improving circulation and speeding blood absorption.
Overall, it is a great choice for the muscles and joints, for the ‘natural’ home first aid kit and for those prone to bruising.
NOTE: Do not apply to broken skin. Store away from other essential oils as strong smells antidote homeopathic remedies.
